Reminiscing 2016. Is it as Fun as We Remember it?

Good ole 2016. What a time to be alive, am right? We had bold eyebrows, insane eye makeup, thick foundations (that were usually and unfortunately matte), Rihanna had new music out, and life felt like it couldn't get better. For some at least. Since everyone on social media is looking back at their time in 2016, I figured I would do the same.

The infamous Kylie lip kits

I think what makes 2016 so appealing to people is the fact that a lot of people reminiscing about it were pretty young at that time. I was personally in my teens, so I remember everything so vividly. The styles, the trends, the lack of Tik Tok. Seriously, the shit we used the most was Instagram because Facebook became a platform for a generation older than us and I can't think of one person I knew that legitimately was using twitter. The videos that used to make my day were those lipstick videos. You know the ones I'm talking about, right? The one where the person in the video would make an absurd lip color out of a couple different matte liquid lipsticks or some crazy art on their lips. See the chokehold matte makeup had on us in 2016 by the way?

And if it wasn't the lip art, it was the nail art. That shit was so creative to. Hell it still is. The music attached to the video made it all the more entertaining. Hearing Justin Beiber's Sorry on repeat? Yes please. Everyone wanted Kylie Jenner's makeup and contour was at an all time high. You know what else made 2016 that bitch in everyone's eyes? Stranger Things was brand spanking new. THAT SHOW CAME OUT ALMOST TEN YEARS AGO. So I imagine that's why that fanbase is emotionally attached to 2016.

What a fucking moment, right?

For me personally, you could not tell me SHIT about the absolute icon that is Paige. That's right folks. WWE wrestler Paige. She was - scratch that - is my wrestling icon. Do I idolize her as much as I did as a teen? Nope. But those are your formative years, and she sure did shape me into the adult I grew into. It was damn near love at first sight with me and that girl. The gothic black makeup, the all black. I think if anyone saw that girl dress in 2016 and compare it to how I dress myself to this day... it's a bit spooky how I subconsciously dress like her.

The ombre hair with any color you desired and the color rose gold had everybody in a chokehold. Seriously, it was rose gold Iphones and eyeshadow palettes, and headphones. If they could rose gold it, it was rose golded.

Then you had gaming. GTA 5 still had everyone's full attention (it still fucking does) and I was still hooked on Batman Arkham Knight. You had anticipated games like Persona 5 and they ever so loved Skyrim. Yandere Simulator was still a thing and Youtubers like Jacksepticeye were my go to. I remember watching the hell out of him to pass the time.

At the root of it all, nostalgia is kind of addictive. It reminds many of a simpler time, a less stressful time. For a lot of people, 2016 was a time for carefree whimsy. While social media was still a thing, a very toxic thing, it somehow felt different. Or maybe that's just my stupid nostalgia talking. Either way, if looking back at that time makes you smile then it's not a crime. Just make sure you don't get stuck in the past.
