The Internets Miles Morales Meltdown

It goes without saying that Spider-Man is one of the worlds most popular superheroes. That’s Peter Parker and Miles Morales. We’ve had multiple interactions of a live action Peter, and fans have been left wanting a live action Miles as well. According to the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, that is nowhere in the near future as Sony is not interesting in allowing the MCU to have one. That hasn’t stopped fanatics from fan-casting anyway.

Their number one pick? Caleb Mclaughlin who played Lucas Sinclair in popular Netflix show, Stranger Things. Obviously with the show coming to a close, the actors are more free to seek out other passions and dreams. His dream being able to portray Miles on the big screen.
Now while he is an accomplished actor with the resume to play the character, many have begged to differ on him possibly playing the role someday. While many enjoy the thought of Caleb being our Miles Morales, others have made a valid point; Miles is Afro-Latino. The discourse of X has been interesting, to say the least.
One side is saying that people want his black side diminished, while the other claims people want his Latin side diminished. My take on it is that the character should be casted accordingly. The character was made to represent a community of kids and people living in New York that are just like him. A black Latino that was raised with both cultures.
If they ever do cast a Miles, the actor portraying him should understand and have experienced the life of a mixed kid. Someone who can accurately say they have lived that life. An actor that is representing both minorities - not one or the other. He should indeed be dark skinned, but also knows what it feels like to reprimanded by a parent in Spanish. To be able to wave both the American flag and whichever country runs through his veins.
This shouldn’t be an argument or competition on which one he should represent more. It should be that he represents both because at the end of the day, he does.
