I had the pleasure of interviewing the talented and already decorated Makayla Me'chelle. We talked everything from her career highlights and the beginnings of her career.

Angid
Alright so I'm here with...
Makayla
Makayla Me'chelle.
Angid
You want to give everyone your social so they know where to find you?
Makayla
Yeah, my Instagram is Makayla Mechelle and then I don't know if y'all use Facebook you know, but just in case Makayla Larson and then TikTok is Makayla Mechelle.
Angid
Okay, perfect. How long have you been modeling?
Makayla
Only a year and eight months.
Angid
Oh wow! And you're like a pro.
Makayla
I'm a pro already.
Angid
Did you take any training or any kind of counseling?
Makayla
I did. In Arizona. But you know, the industry is not very big out there. So there's a lot of scams out there. So I did take a model workshop class. I'm not going to name it.
I don't want them to come for me, but it was a scam. But I did learn, like, somewhat of a runway walk there. I did learn some posing.
Angid
How did you figure out it was a scam?
Makayla
Because like I was like texting other people who have participated in it and they were promised a bunch of stuff and they just never got it.
Angid
That sucks. So what got you into it initially? Like, was it something you always wanted to do?
Makayla
No, I was in - I have a psychology degree and so my job before this, I was like nannying. And I also did cosmetology school for nails specifically. I did that for three months. So then I had a scholarship and track I could have took that and ran with it, you know, but I wasn't like I wasn't feeling it after high school, you know?
Angid
Like a change in passion.
Makayla
Yeah, you like I was I was running professionally in college for like two months and it just kind of drained me, you know, and it wasn't fun anymore.
Angid
Okay, so how did that come about? Like, you wanting to model and jumping into this industry?
Makayla
I always wanted to do something like in the entertainment industry. Growing up had a little YouTube channel. You know when you're like eight, and you think you were like some hot shit or whatever. So I guess from there. I didn't really know what modeling really... I knew what it was, but I didn't know like what came with it and all that. I don't know. It was just something I kind of jumped into.
Angid
Makayla
Be an influencer or something. Yeah, I don't know.
Angid
So I saw you were in a commercial - a couple of commercials. Which was the first one you were in?
Makayla
My first ever one. Let me think. That was like a year a - no, a year and a couple of months ago. I'm trying to think. I was in a Hilton commercial. A couple of anti vape commercials. I'm trying to think of what of my first one one was.... If it comes to mind, I'll let you know.
Angid
I'm a big fan of the food network and I saw you were on the food network. What show was that?
Makayla
That was supermarket stakeout.
Angid
So what was the role in that?
Makayla
I was just like grocery shopping and that show, the chefs come to you and they have to buy your cart. Somebody just bought my cart and I was just, like "take it".
Angid
So since you've done a little bit of acting, you've been on TV already, do you have a dream role in in mind?
Makayla
A dream role? Yeah, I want to be in something like Euphoria. I could play a good Sydney Sweeney, you know what I mean?
Angid
So a drama. Okay. And you were in a music video recently, I saw. With an artist named Deuce Mayne.
Makayla
Yeah, he's based in Arizona. So he's from Atlanta, but he just moved there and he was looking for models and I kind of just like... "hey, I'm you know, I model. I can be in that."
Angid
So what's more what's more pressure to you? Being in a runway or modeling, or being in a production for a music video or any production that you've been on?
Makayla
Probably runway. Because commercials and productions, you can take a couple takes, you know? So, you know, if there's a fuck up, you can fix it and reshoot. On the runway, it's one shot, one go, you can't fix that. Once you walk... yeah.
Makayla
What's one of your favorite pieces that you've modeled in?
Makayla
My favorite piece. So this was back in Arizona. I did love modeling in the ones today (Tabbe Designs). Those are going to look great. Back in Arizona, there's this shoe designer. He gemifies like Nikes and Jordans with gems by hand. His name is Gabe. So I worked with him a couple of times and he gave me these black and gold shoes. I don't know where else I'd wear them at, but we shot in them and we got on Vogue Weekly with them.
Angid
I was going to ask you about that because I saw you were featured in Vogue. How surreal was that for you?
Makayla
It was pretty cool. I knew the publicist for Vogue Weekly.
Angid
So who was the first person you called or texted when you got that feature in Vogue?
Makayla
The photographer.
Angid
Was he freaking out too, or was he like used to it?
Makayla
He's used to it.
Angid
Is there a specific model that inspires your craft?
Makayla
Bella Hadid.
Angid
What about her makes her inspiring to you?
Makayla
She just captures what the definition of a model is, you know? I try to like portray that, obviously. Like I can't replicate it, completely, but like, yeah. She's up there for me. And then also, Alex Consani, have you heard of her?
Angid
I have not.
Makayla
She's a transgender model. But, she's like killing it right now. Naomi Campbell, you know, the basic super models, but everybody looks up to them. I really love Lily Rose Depp too. You know, she's nepo baby, but she's working. She's still doing her thing on the runway.
Angid
I saw that you wanna do modeling for Versace and Dior, you know, those are the big names. How hard is it to get even in that conversation?
Makayla
Oh, it's going to be super hard. Like here already, I'm making a lot of connections, but I have to be like very.... you know, I feel like you have to be apart of..... like be at the Grammys or like these big events, you know? To socialize.Hopefully that happens soon, and I get connected to somebody who's going to really help me out here. But I don't think - if I stayed in Arizona, I would I would never have an opportunity like that, you know?
I feel like if you're in a small town and you're modeling, get out of there.
Angid
So it's kind of like what they say. Move out of the small town, get into the big city.
Makayla
Yeah. You're not going to get anywhere. I was modeling over there for like a year, a year and eight months. There were local things, nothing big enough to make you stand out and nothing big enough that's gonna really push you.
Angid
It's really just stuff to put in your portfolio, but nothing that's done to really push your career forward.
Makayla
Yeah. Yeah. There's nothing over there.
Angid
Okay, well thank you, Makayla. Thank you so much.
Makayla
Thank you so much for having me. Of course. Thanks.
