I caught Nicolette just as she was heading out after she made everyone watching her jealous of her skills and confidence. She gave us a little insight on her experience in the industry, and the changes she seen these past couple of years.

I'm here with the fabulous Nicolette who just finished walking on Gotham Glamour. Tell us how it went.
Nicolette
It was smooth and I can’t say anything bad. Everybody that was there was super supportive. And the photographers were amazing. Saw some new faces and some old, you know. But it was great.
Angid
How long have you been modeling?
Nicolette
Continuously, non stop for over a year now. But on and off now for 10 years.
Angid
And what’s your experience been like modeling for so long? Has the industry changed drastically over time or has it remained more or less the same?
Nicolette
It’s changed, absolutely. For me to able to do what I’m able to do and not be in a salon job full-time or doing other things full-time, because of social media in many bad ways. But the networking is great in turning that into a free brand for yourself, and meeting people such as Daniel from Eyecam and bringing everybody together. And you can create with people from all over and it’s awesome.
Angid
And how many runways have you done collectively since you’ve been working and networking?
Nicolette
This is the second. I think I did a couple when I was a teenager, maybe 19 or 20 (years old). The last one I did was with Donny’s Devils. I think it was the Santa one. That was the first one where I was asked when the last time I walked was and I was like “uh, ten years ago”.
Angid
What was your initial reaction when you got to walk on the runway again?
Nicolette
Well, I was the first one to walk. So I was like, “really? I couldn’t go out second?” So the pressure was on. But it was definitely a different type of venue. Like this was definitely easier with the way it was set up. It was smooth, there wasn’t any confusion as to where you need to go.
Angid
I noticed while you were on the runway and some of your work that you have some tattoos that are amazing and beautiful. Is there some kind of stigma or predisposition to tattooed models or is it more accepting than it was in the past?
Nicolette
Actually, I just had this conversation with my dad the other day. So ever since I was like a baby, like before I could talk, well, at all, I've always wanted to act and sing, and model. But, you know, I'm 5’5. So it is what it is. So it’s not like it used to be , like when my mom modeled in the 80’s. It was just like swimsuit stuff but we have the same build. But I’ve always been into tattoos and body modifications, and hair. So I settled on doing hair when I was 10 and I’ve done it ever since…. But just in the past few years, Victoria’s secret, American eagle, big brands and even lingerie have people with different shapes, sizes, and height. People with colored hair, guys with their nails painted. That wasn’t available to me in my early 20’s. I wasn’t on Instagram. You just had to be a certain build at the time.
Angid
So there was certain stereotype for what they wanted?
Nicolette
Yes. And if you had tattoos, you were just a tattoo model. And one of my coaches that I work with said, “you’re not a tattoo model. You’re a model with tattoos.” And I like to be versatile. When I go to a shoot I’m like “yeah, but put me in a gown. Put me in, I wanna go out.”
Angid
You wanna experiment.
Nicolette
Yes, exactly.
Angid
Well, it was great talking with you. You did phenomenal on the runway.
Nicolette
Thank you. I’m so nervous to see though.
